It’s close to dawn and yet I’m still busy harvesting raspberries, tomatoes, corns, sunflowers, mangoes, and apples from somebody else’s farm. My right arm almost numbed from non-stop clicking of the mouse. But I don’t mind. I have one major goal to nail:  earn 70 000 so that I can buy a little house for my own piece of land. At exactly 1:15 a.m., I bought my dream house and it’s so lovely.

What kept me wide awake the whole night? Farm Town. It’s a game/application in facebook where you design, maintain, and cultivate a virtual farmland. Additionally, you can increase your finances by working for other farmers, say by harvesting or plowing. Well, by my standard, I think I’m a good farmer. In just a matter of hours, I was able to reach Level 9 — Popular Farmer.

Not bad huh.

Don’t you think how the world is indeed paradoxical? It keeps on upgrading technologies and elevating humanity’s standard of living, only to go back where it has started!

This morning, I also woke up really late. My mother was talking to me on the phone when she mentioned about the death of someone, I initially asked if it was my grandfather. No, it was Cory Aquino, she said. Stupid of me. The news, although expected (due to constant reports on her health condition), still made me sad.

peoplepowerAll TV networks today devote their time and coverage on Cory’s death. Talks revolve around state funeral, necrological mass, testimonies, and everything else personalities have to say in memory of a very sincere President like CCA — our symbol of peace and freedom.  In the course of Philippine history, we have had only two Filipino women Presidents. But I would like to look at them as ‘mothers’ of this land.  Though they (GMA and CCA) are both females and were professors before becoming politicians, they have exactly different approaches to rearing their children and the family (our government) in general.

GMA, IMHO is like most moms who would rather secure a good future by ensuring that the family’s finances and source of income is stable, regardless of many other concerns. In her eight years of presidency, most of her SONA centered on economic progress and reforms.

CCA on the other hand, was more of a doting mother who closely guides her children — ensures that they are taking the right path, are God-fearing, and knows how to love in the real sense of the word. The stature of this nation took a huge leap in the international arena as it showed the world how democracy can be attained in peaceful means. Being Filipinos, it’s very natural for us to have an active defiance when our rights are being trampled. But for the first time in world history, a nation fought using no force.

Whats better, it became a template in the world stage to have people power in ending the cycle of corruption and aggression. The accolades are overwhelming that even foreign governments sent personal messages of condolences and sympathy. I caught a glimpse of Hillary Clinton who claimed how sad it can be to lose someone like President CCA.

My mind is also filled with thougths on SONA. I was intently watching the TV last July 27. However, I had mixed opinion. One reason might be because despite GMA’s involvement in controversies, I believe she worked hard for the country. Second, she had a decent public image before she became a President. She was our Commencement Speaker when I graduated in College back in 1998. Very unyieldingly, I never thought she would end up in the middle of all these.

A lot of people are waiting for her to do a Cory in her last address, that is — to categorically admit she will no longer run for presidency in 2010 or in any other position such as in the Congress (knowing that ChaCha is still being pushed even at this point). I guess what she mentioned did not satisfy the many. It appears also that she came prepared with numbers/statistics notwithstanding the real state of things. Sigh.
